Saltwater Freshwater Art

Saltwater Freshwater Arts BookIn the Visual Artist Mapping project of 2009, 170 emerging and established Aboriginal visual artists were identified from Forster to Coffs Harbour.  Painters, sculptors, photographers and new media artists were added to a database of Mid North Coast Aboriginal artists.

39 of these artists feature in Saltwater Freshwater Arts Alliance’s first publication, Saltwater Freshwater Art.  With an essay by Professor Margo Neale, Senior Curator (Indigenous) at the National Museum of Australia, the artwork of the Mid North Coast’s Aboriginal artists is put into a national context and is sure to place the unique style of the region firmly on the world map.

The publication aims to market these established and emerging artists to both national and international audiences. It is the first time that the unique styles of the Saltwater Freshwater artists of the Mid North Coast promoted collectively to raise the profile of talent in this region.

Saltwater Freshwater Art was launched at the 2011 Saltwater Freshwater Festival in Port Macquarie and is available for sale online.

This publication has been assisted by the Australian Government through the Australia Council for the Arts, its funding and advisory body.
