Following from the success of the 2009 weaving workshops, in 2010 the Boolarng Nangamai Aboriginal Arts and Culture Studio conducted Weaving Master Classes in nine communities on the Mid North Coast. The participants learnt in depth weaving skills and how to use and harvest local plants and obtain the necessary permits from Chels Marshall of the National Parks and Wildlife Service.
The workshops aimed to give the participants the skills and knowledge required for running their own weaving workshops in their communities.
This project was made possible by the Australian Government’s regional arts program, the Regional Arts Fund, which gives all Australian’s, wherever they live, better access to opportunities to practice and experience the arts.
Examples of the woven objects were displayed at the 2011 Saltwater Freshwater Festival in Port Macquarie.
